Argo Selection: Out of Place
By Argo

To be ‘Out of Place’ can resemble the idea of being lonely. One can feel out of place in their hometown in the same way one can feel lonely around their friends. Argo’s new playlist, Out of Place, examines 4 stories about how we set out to define our roots, and what makes a place our true home.

Academy Award-nominated ‘Brotherhood’ examines the emotional complexities of a family reunion; Mohamed is deeply shaken and suspicious when his estranged eldest son Malek returns home to rural Tunisia with a mysterious young wife. The reopening of past wounds ultimately leads to tragic consequences.

Two undocumented, Turkish brothers face the challenges of life in New York City together. Green (aka Samet), the younger brother and a recent arrival to the city, wants to make a fresh start in a new place, but Abi, older and battle-worn, has been in the city longer and knowing the challenges that await his brother wants to protect him.

A young Bosnian refugee family ends up in a small village in the Netherlands after getting a residence permit in 1994. Absurd situations arise as they are trying to make this new world their home.

Tiikeri (The Tiger)

On a winter evening Dad returns home drunk. Tiger is in his room and Mom is sleeping on the couch. A quarrel breaks out. Dad has a shotgun. Tiger and Mom escape the house. Haunting silence falls. Tiger must return inside to see what has happened – and to take the first steps towards independence.
